19 Modern Fall Decorating Ideas (without a lot of fuss) – jane at home (2024)

I’m a big fan of summer, but around this time of year I find myself getting excited about the warm colors and cozy feelings of fall. With the changing seasons on my mind, I thought this would be a great time to share a few fall decorating ideas for 2024 with you. I hope these ideas will help you bring a touch of autumn to your home that will look fresh and beautiful throughout the coming months.

Since I’m all about keeping things easy, most of the fall decor ideas in this post involve creative ways of using colors, textures, and items you already have around your house, like plush throws, wood and woven elements, warm comforters, and textural pillows.

To begin, here are a few decorating tips to help you embrace the fall season:

Use organic, natural elements for a modern fall look

When decorating our home for fall, I always begin by gathering fresh branches and greenery from outdoors. There’s nothing easier — or more beautiful — and it’s one of my favorite tips for decorating for fall on a budget.

Here’s a beautiful space showing how the simple addition of a few fall branches, along with some wood elements and framed artwork, can create a modern fall look in the entryway. From Alexis Andra Austin.

You can often find fall grasses, stems, and dried flowers in neighboring fields, too.

The space below is a lovely example of how to bring a natural touch of fall to the breakfast nook — or any spot in your home.

The simple addition of some oversized greenery, along with a couple of leather pillows, brings a seasonal look to this otherwise summery space. The beautiful woven pendant light adds a wonderful organic touch, too.

Adding a few pumpkins here and there is another easy way to decorate your home for autumn.

I love this beautiful fall mantel display incorporating a combination of real and faux pumpkins in shades of blue and white, along with fresh greenery and stems. It’s the perfect way to decorate the mantel for fall with a modern seasonal look!

Add in some warmth with textiles

Next, throw in a few pillows, throws, and rugs in warm, earthy fall tones.

Switching out some of the pillows on your sofa, adding a heavier blanket to the end of your bed, and draping chunky knit throws on the arms or backs of your couch and chairs can bring an instant touch of warm fall décor to your home.

I mention this in almost all my decorating posts, but adding in some textural layers and cozy accents can completely transform the look and feeling of a room — especially for fall.
