The kitchen is quite literally considered to be the heart of the home! So, it is only natural that we would want to give it a little ‘love’ during the Valentine’s Day season! But, if I am being honest, it wasn’t until I had kids of my own that I even considered adding hearts in this space! There is just something about having kids that helps to bring out the ‘cheer’ in you every season – including Valentine’s Day – and now I can’t imagine our kitchen without a few pops of pink and red!

Below I am sharing six things that we did in our kitchen here at my weathered home this year to celebrate the season of LOVE. And, I am joining 5 friends for a blog hop that you won’t want to miss either! But first, let’s talk all things “LOVE.”

Layer In The Color Red

One of the first things I did this year for Valentines Day was to layer in some red and white tins into my large white cupboard that sits in the kitchen beside our table. I love this cupboard so much and I usually decorate the inside of it seasonally. This year I opted to stick with only red and white in this space and that simple color combo allowed me to highlight some rose graphics as well! I really, really am so happy with the way that it turned out!

Add In Some Lovely Layers

A few weeks ago I created this little ‘garden inspired’ centerpiece for our table (see how I made it here) and I thought it would be fun to make it a tad bit more festive! While you can see the that I added a few hearts in and around the actual centerpiece, what really stands out to me is the heart runner that I added underneath. I feel that little layer of hearts really stands out and also compliments the cookie cutters and the cardboard hearts that I tucked inside the arrangement.

On The Table

I am all about adding in a moment of ‘surprise’ when I can. With that in mind, this Valentine’s Day season I decided to turn over a few of my little butter molds that have hearts!

(You can read all about the history of butter molds here and see how I have used them.) I also added a few yarn hearts in the dough bowl above and I am so happy with the way it turned out.

Inside The Cabinet

I also added in a few hearts right above our counters. I used a few small glass jars with heart lids just to give this whole space a slight Valentine’s Day touch. They are very subtle, but I love that I was able to sneak in a few hearts into this area without having to rearrange the entire space.

In A Vessel

I can not remember where I found it, but a few years ago I stumbled upon this really cute carved wood heart on a stick. Each year, I like to pop into my bowl of old wooden utensils.

Valentines On Display

While I love to add little subtle hints of the holiday, I also love to be ‘obvious’ about celebrating the season too. So, I like to put a few valentine’s on display around the kitchen when it is an option. For example, I made this little Valentine banner that I hang across our white cabinet when the door is closed. It is a great way to give this little corner of the room a change!

You can also just throw a few paper pieces (I chose old valentines but you could use anything festive) into a bowl or dish!

Bring In Some Nature

I love flowers any time of year and Valentine’s Day is no exception. This year I decided to add a miniature rose bush onto the kitchen counter. I usually lean towards red, but this year I decided to go with pink and I am so glad that I did! The pink really is quite beautiful and really gets me excited about the spring season ahead.

While I love those pink roses I am even more excited to be sharing this little green Valentine’s ‘heart’ with you all. I was so happy to find this little heart shaped cactus at Pikes. I tucked him here into one of my kitchen cupboards against a white ironstone pitcher.

Sweet Hearts

I know that we all love this part of Valentine’s Day. Who doesn’t enjoy a sweet treat during this season?

We always have these yummy treats out during this season and I love putting heart shaped goodies out on display. Here I have a few goodies out for the kids to grab after school! I love the chocolate candies and my husband Mark likes the gummies – so we have a little of both!

But, don’t forget that you can put goodies IN HEARTS too. I love a good “heart shaped vessel” when I can find one and this wooden heart shaped bowl is no exception! As you can see below, I filled this bowl with red hot hearts – and I love the way it looks!
