Why won't my melonDS fast forward? ›

Edit- If fast forward doesn't work for you, it means one of two things: you're using OpenGL and your video driver is forcing vsync, or melonDS is just not running fast enough for fast-forward. The input code has been reworked to be more pleasant to deal with, especially with regards to adding hotkeys.

melonDS has always been a high accuracy emulator, but before there was a huge sacrifice to performance. This time around, the gap in performance between DeSmuME and melonDS has closed. In fact, melonDS runs at the same speed on my computer regardless of whether it's at native resolution or at 8x internal resolution!

On MelonDS on the top bar you can go Config > Input and Hotkeys > General Hotkeys, then bind the keyboard keys for Fullscreen, and also Swap Screens and Pause/Resume and other things.

Key mappings can also be cleared by pressing Backspace, just like for joystick mappings.

Most notably, in DS mode, melonDS no longer requires you to obtain BIOS/firmware files.

Game Boy Advance Emulation: melonDS can load Game Boy Advance ROMs and save data for use by compatible Nintendo DS games, but it cannot actually emulate the GBA.

DOSBox allows you to change how quick the emulated PC is. Just press ctrl+f11 for slower and ctrl-f12 for faster. On top of that, unless your game is very obscure it is almost guaranteed to run perfectly with all the sound effects etc that it originally had.

Why is DeSmuME lagging so much? ›

Try disabling any streaming software, gaming enhancements ("game mode"), etc. You may need to disable some windows DPI adjustment. Also try changing desmume's config > display method and choosing a different desmume 3d renderer option.

Most importantly, it is completely free to use and packs all the features a beginner DS emulator user needs. From being able to save and load from 4 slots to even fast-forwarding, Lemuroid is a great emulator for Android. Additionally, it is not just limited to Nintendo DS ROMs.

melonDS offers no UI for setting its own time. It is possible to boot into the firmware and use the settings menu there, but melonDS ignores writes to the RTC date/time registers, so it just reverts back to the host system time.

While melonDS is windowed, you will have access to the settings at the top of the screen. Adjust these options to your liking. After you have made your changes, press Select + R3 again to switch melonDS back to full screen.

Speed and Alternate Speed can be set between 25-400% in the menu. The Speed (only) currently can be set by hotkey (minus and equals by default). The Alternate Speed is used by the 'fast forward' hotkey (tab by default); therefore it doubles as a slow-motion hotkey. To change the alternate speed, ctrl+click in the menu.

Fast forward is the feature that speeds up the game. To access it: Temporary fast forward: Press and hold the Tab key. When you want the fast forward to end, release the Tab key.
