Want to make an easy and deliciousTzatziki Sauce Recipe? This one takes just a few minutes, and comes out creamy and perfect for topping gyros!

Tzatziki Sauce Recipe | Greek Yogurt and Cucumber Sauce (1)

What Makes This Tzatziki Sauce Recipe So Good?

  • Low Carb. Only one carb per serving.
  • Easy. Simply mix the ingredients and eat.
  • Few Ingredients. A 5 ingredient recipe.
  • Refreshing. The perfect fresh taste to add to your gyro, salad, or shawarma.

This Tzatziki Sauce Recipeis yet another stupid simple but delicious recipe where you basically throw things together in a bowl and eat. It's hard to see how five little ingredients can produce so much flavor, but somehow they all do, and it all works beautifully.

Tahini vs Tzatziki

Both of these are delicious, creamy sauces, but other than that, they're not too much alike. Let me break it down for you:

What Is Tzatziki?

  • Creamy
  • Yogurt based
  • Seasoned with fresh herbs and lemon juice
  • Generally as a topping for other recipes.

What Is Tahini?

  • Creamy
  • Made from toasted and crushed sesame seeds and oil.
  • Generally served as a dip.

What Do You Eat Tzatziki With?

I can eat a whole bowl of thisTzatziki by myself. I use it when I make gyros, either in the Instant Pot or in the ovenand it adds a fresh, light taste to the dish.

Most people would put this into a pita along with the meat, but since I try to eat keto, I end up just eating the meat with the dip, and honestly, that's where the flavor is at anyway, so it works for me.

I also use it when I make Chicken Shawarma. By the time the chicken cooks you could whip up this Tzatziki recipe, cut up a few vegetables for a raw salad, and hey presto! Dinner.

Is Tzatziki Sauce Healthy?

In my opinion, yes. This tzatziki sauce recipe is low in calories, low in carbs, and low sugar. Plus it keeps you from reaching for a higher calorie or sugar sauce or salad dressing to accompany some of your favorite dishes.

How To Make This Tzatziki Recipe

  1. Chop. Cut up cucumbers.
  2. Measure. Measure yogurt and spices.
  3. Pour. Squirt a little lemon juice.
  4. Mix. Stir all of the ingredients together.
  5. Serve. Add to one of your favorite dishes.

For the garlic in this dish, I can't mince it finely enough so I tend to use about half a teaspoons of pre-minced garlic.

I've seen recipes that ask you to shred and then drain the cucumbers but I have to say I almost never drain them when I'm making Tzatziki.

How Long Does Tzatziki Last?

When you make this tzatziki sauce recipe, you'll want to make sure you have a plan to eat it within the next three days. I know, that doesn't sound like much time. But it's so delicious I promise you won't have an issue finishing it!

My family went dairy free earlier this year and I have put off making tzatziki sauce because I was afraid the DF version would be bad. I’m here to tell you substituting Kitehill plain almond milk yogurt with a spoonful of Kitehill cream cheese mixed in works perfectly!!!!!!!!

This is so good. Use it on gyros, as a salad dressing, as a dip... I shared the recipe with my daughter and we both make it a lot.

Great recipe! Simple to make and tasted great without the tahini paste (didn't have any on hand nor the sesame seeds to make any). I did add some fresh, finely chopped dill which was really good. Thank you!!

This was delicious! Didn’t have pine nuts so roughly chopped almonds, jasmine rice because I didn’t have basmati, used bone broth instead of water, and also used ground elk. So easy. Served with peas. Even 3yo liked it!

Made this tonight for dinner. We were a little bit worried about the gray meat, but the flavor was so good! The whole family gobbled it up! I did make two loafs and had to cook them separately in my IP.

Husband said to make this again..... soon. Delicious

I was greatly disappointed with the gyro recipe. This is not at all the same taste I remember eating in Germany. I'm not sure why I don't like it. Too much of the spices maybe. Any suggestions of how to modify it would be greatly appreciated.

Hmm that’s interesting. It’s actually very true to the tastes in the US. I can’t recall having tried gyros in Germany so unfortunately I don’t know what would be different. Was it the meat or this tzatziki that tasted different to you?

I used to live in Germany as well. I bet she is looking for a recipe for doner kebab, with more of a Turkish flavor profile.

I wouldn’t be surprised, since the doner kebabs I’ve had have a flavor profile different from gyro meat.

What is a popular Greek sauce made of yogurt and cucumber? ›

Tzatziki is made simply with yogurt, drained cucumber, olive oil, fresh herbs (usually mint or dill), garlic, lemon juice and salt. It's a refreshing chilled sauce, dip or spread.

Which yoghurt is best for tzatziki? ›

Tzatziki is a creamy cucumber yogurt dip (or sauce) made from simple ingredients including strained yogurt (or Greek yogurt), cucumbers, garlic, and sometimes fresh herbs such as dill or mint. Traditionally, it is made from strained sheep or goat's milk yogurt, but a full-fat Greek yogurt works just fine in this dip.

Is cucumber raita the same as tzatziki? ›

What's the Difference Between Raita and Tzatziki? Raita is made on the base of regular yogurt while tzatziki is made using Greek yogurt. Raita is thinner in consistency, while tzatziki has a dip-like thick texture. A raita will never have olive oil, while tzatziki is flavored with olive oil in certain recipes.

How do you thicken yogurt for tzatziki? ›

What if I put too much garlic in my tzatziki? ›
